چکیده

Parallel viscosity 〈B · ∇ ·Πi〉 as a function of radial electric field Er (or, equivalently, non equilibrium poloidal rotation) in a tokamak is studied using a 5D (3D in configuration space and 2D in velocity space) Monte Carlo particle following code. It is shown that including the poloidal density variation changes the qualitative behavior of the solution causing the parallel viscosity to change sign when the Mach number Mp = |Er/vtBθ| is of the order of unity. Here, vt is the thermal velocity and Bθ is the poloidal magnetic field.

Poloidal variation of high-Z impurity density due to hydrogen minority ICRH on Alcator C-Mod

In the Alcator C-Mod tokamak, strong, steady-state variations of molybdenum density within a flux surface are routinely observed in plasmas using hydrogen minority ion cyclotron resonant heating. In/out asymmetries, up to a factor of 2, occur with both inboard and outboard accumulation depending on the major radius of the minority resonance layer. These poloidal variations can be attributed to ...

Drive of parallel flows by turbulence and large-scale E × B transverse transport in divertor geometry

Poloidal asymmetries of parallel flows in edge plasmas are investigated by the 3D fluid turbulence code TOKAM3X. A diverted COMPASSlike magnetic equilibrium is used for simulations. Measurements and simulations of parallel Mach numbers are compared and exhibit good qualitative agreement. Small-scale turbulent transport is observed to dominate near the Low Field Side midplane, even though co-exi...

Numerical Simulation of Neoclassical Currents, Parallel Viscosity, and Radial Current Balance in Tokamak Plasmas

One of the principal problems en route to a fusion reactor is that of insufficient plasma confinement, which has lead to both theoretical and experimental research into transport processes in the parameter range relevant for fusion energy production. The neoclassical theory of tokamak transport is well-established unlike the theory of turbulence driven anomalous transport in which extensive pro...

Study of Parameters Affecting Separation Bubble Size in High Speed Flows using k-ω Turbulence Model

Shock waves generated at different parts of vehicle interact with the boundary layer over the surface at high Mach flows. The adverse pressure gradient across strong shock wave causes the flow to separate and peak loads are generated at separation and reattachment points. The size of separation bubble in the shock boundary layer interaction flows depends on various parameters. Reynolds-averaged...

Effects of poloidal variation of neutral density on Pfirsch-Schlüter transport near tokamak edge

Effects of neutral particles on plasma flows and radial transport in a collision-dominated plasma are discussed, with a particular attention given to the modifications due to a poloidal variation of the neutral density. It is found that neutrals are of no importance if the radial particle transport is on a Pfirsch-Schlüter level. If, on the other hand, anomalous effects increase this transport ...
